we are busy working on our calendar for this year. we had an unexpected glitch, the church will no longer let us use their room. such a bummer, i have been there since starting my first group. we will be meeting at the camp fire council until another place is decided or we might decide to meet at camp fire permanently.

camp shiwaka 2012

hello there rocket cats!! hope you are having a wonderful summer!!

next week is camp shiwaka and wanted to give you a quick reminder of the schedule:

Monday through Wednesday 9am to 3:30pm
Thursday drop off between 2 and 2:30pm, sleep over, pick up Friday 10am

I will be at the campsite next to the rocket cats this week and will spend some time taking pictures and doing special activities with them. I will be sleeping over with another parent from my older group on Thursday so rest assured, the kids will be well supervised.

What to bring Monday: ditty bag (with plate, cup, bowl, utensils), sit upon, hat, water bottle with their name on it for the week, sunscreen, bug spray (if your kid gets bit, its hit or miss with the bugs)
kids must wear closed toe shoes (NO FLIP FLOPS OR SANDALS), long socks (no ankle socks please) and remember they will get super dirty. long hair needs to be pulled back, we cook over the fire each day.

Monday: bring a sack lunch, meals are cooked in camp the rest of the week
Thursday: bring sleeping bag, pillow, pi's, tooth brush and paste, clothes for the next day. kids can bring one sleeping toy/blanket type thing like a stuffed animal (remember it will get dirty and stickers so make sure kids know it might be ruined)

remember no electronics are allowed at camp (phones, iPods, game boys etc) we want to ROUGH IT OUT THERE!! :)

Camp Shiwaka is the start of our new year and we have lots of fun stuff planned starting in September. We are in Adventure Level now so Indian themes become more prominent. the kids will pick a new indian name for our group, make a new group symbol and work on their own personal indian names. the kids really love this so i am excited to see what they come up with.

Spring Camp Out/Camp Shiwaka

CAMP SHIWAKA: we will be attending session 3 August 13 through 17, we will again use a counselor to run the rocket cats, this year i will be closer to them and able to spend more time doing activities and taking photographs. you need to print the forms off the camp fire website, we will have some available for you to fill out at our next meeting on Wednesday May 2nd. I have to turn in all the registrations together and need to get it in by May 8th, so please fill this out asap. you will need a copy of immunizations (or you can fill them out on the back of the form). i always xerox extra copies so i have them on hand for all the camp forms. You will choose Session 3, Option 2, the fee is 160$ (this includes food and is actually a great deal) You do not have to pay the registration fee (20) because you will pay that in june when we register for next year. you are already a member of camp fire. you will receive a 15$ discount for candy sale credit (lisa g has everyones ticket) so your total is $145.

spring camp out is coming up friday may 11-12 and my older group is making mock tacos for dinner, if you guys want to make them as well, let me know. we will need ground beef, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, grated cheese and frito corn chips, plates, forks, napkins, water. (maybe renee can be our shopper and we can pitch in to pay her back? if not then we need to sign up for items to bring) for dessert i have a dr pepper dump cake recipe i want to try so i will supply the ingredients for that. we can also have s'mores, since they are so easy to assemble.

i will have my large tent if anyone needs a place to sleep, space is limited though so i need to know asap if 1) you are coming and how many 2) if you have your own tent or need a place to sleep 3) what time you will be arriving. i will need help to set up the fire and the cooking of the meat, i will bring refried beans if anyone doesn't eat/like meat. i will be there early get the cooking organized, my husband will be there to set up our tent and help anyone who needs it. please bring a sleeping bag, pillow, jacket, flashlight, pj's, toothbrush and toothpaste. a stuffed toy for sleeping is fine but please no electronic games/phones etc (for the kids) and nothing of value that could be damaged. no flip flops or sandals, only closed toe shoes please.

50 $ is due for the pancake breakfast tickets on or before may 11, you can bring it to the next meeting on may 2nd in an envelope with your name on it. you can use the tickets for your family and friends to eat on saturday may 12 after the sleep over. you are supposed to sell them and many people do, i personally haven't had much luck and give them away to the kids friends. since camp fire costs only 20$ a year to join, i consider that 50$ an additional registration fee (total 70$ is still pretty dang cheap for all the activities that are hosted at the council for us). you will need those tickets to eat, so remember to bring them with you to the sleep over.

Spring Camp Out: there is a 5 dollar fee per person if you sleep over and a 2 dollar per person charge if you are just eating dinner. there will be a table at the entrance to camp shiwaka where you can pay and get a stamp on your hand. when parking, make sure your car is facing out (backed in), closed toed shoes (no flip flops or sandals) hair up and out of face (we will be cooking over a fire), bug spray, extra water if you want.

our next meeting is wednesday may 2 at the church 6:15. please wear your white polo and bring your NEW BLUE VEST (purchase at camp fire store) so we can take a group picture of everyone in their new vests. if you want to put the "camp fire usa" and "adventure level triangle patch" on your new vest, you can purchase them at the council store. we will be working on our "wise old willie" owl patch.

what's due: 50$ pancake breakfast ticket money (due by may 11th spring camp out) 5 or 2 $ fee at spring camp out (sleep over 5 or just dinner 2) 145$ camp shiwaka session 3 due by may 2nd meeting at the church
